    The Norwood School

    Taylor’s journey with Academy21 began at home, supported by a flexible hybrid model that allowed them to access live, interactive lessons from subject specialist teachers. At the start, Taylor was understandably cautious, but over time, their confidence began to grow. “It’s been a complete transformation, Taylor used to respond with one-word answers. Now I get emails asking how I am, requests for help, updates about progress. It’s like they’ve found their voice again. They wouldn’t have done their GCSEs without Academy21.     Rheo’s Story

    Rheo who had been diagnosed with ASD was losing his motivation to learn and wasn’t fully engaging in his education. “We restricted his timetable, but it didn’t really help him academically. Although I tried to supplement his learning at home, it was difficult to gauge the right level of support he needed. The school signed him up with Academy21, and he started attending. It made a world of difference. He liked the idea that there was a teacher who was responsive to him. Although he couldn’t see anyone else in the class, having that sense of one-to-one interaction really helped him.” – Rheo’s mum, Kim.

    ​​“Some students will only use it for perhaps half a term, to give them a break, particularly if they’re struggling with mental health. Teachers are actively engaging students, setting work, and even assigning homework. It is a fantastic approach for those struggling, and it is something we could not provide before. Now, with Academy21, we have an alternative that truly works for our students… We have a Year 10 student who does three days with Academy21 and two days in school, and we are looking to increase it.
