How we support you

Preparing pupils for what comes next

Transitions play a crucial role in shaping a young person’s confidence, engagement and future outcomes. From supporting KS2 pupils as they prepare for the move into secondary school, to helping students navigate secondary education and prepare for life beyond school, these moments of change matter.

Academy21 supports schools to help pupils navigate transitions with confidence. Our DfE-accredited Online Alternative Provision works alongside both primary and secondary schools to provide flexible, targeted support for pupils who may experience anxiety around change, disengagement from learning or barriers to progress at key points in their education.

Are your Year 6 pupils secondary ready?

Starting secondary school is a big step. For some children, the move from Year 6 to Year 7 can feel overwhelming and can affect confidence, wellbeing and readiness to learn.

Academy21 works alongside primary schools to provide short-term, targeted support that fits around existing transition planning. Delivered online in flexible blocks, our Online Alternative Provision helps pupils develop emotional readiness and academic confidence without disrupting core learning.

We can support primary pupils to:

  • Build emotional wellbeing, resilience and confidence
  • Develop communication and social skills ahead of Y7
  • Manage anxiety linked to change and uncertainty
  • Acquire strong functional reading, writing and maths skills

All lessons are live, interactive and delivered by teachers experienced in supporting pupils through transition phases.

Supporting pupils from Year 7 and beyond

Transition points in secondary education can have a lasting impact on a young person’s confidence, engagement and future outcomes. For many pupils, the move from Year 6 to Year 7 is particularly challenging, while further changes between academic years and an increasing focus on preparation for life beyond school can also affect confidence, engagement and attendance.

Our provision offers flexible, targeted support for pupils who struggle to settle in Years 7, 8 and 9, experience disengagement at key transition points or need additional help as they prepare for their next steps beyond school.

Academy21 works alongside secondary schools to provide short-term, tailored support that complements existing pastoral and academic provision to help pupils build confidence, resilience and academic stability without disrupting their wider school experience.

We can support secondary pupils to:

  • Settle into secondary school and build confidence in Year 7
  • Manage anxiety linked to change and increasing independence
  • Improve engagement, wellbeing and attendance
  • Prepare for next steps beyond school, including independence and readiness for change

Easy enrolment and ongoing support

Our regional support teams work directly with schools and local authorities to ensure swift, seamless enrolment. Students can be onboarded and attending live lessons in as little as 48 hours, with all setup requirements handled by our team. From day one, we maintain clear and consistent communication, offering responsive assistance for any queries. Through our Mentor Portal, partners can track attendance, engagement and progress daily, ensuring full visibility at every stage of the placement.

Reporting and monitoring

When a student is enrolled, attendance and engagement expectations are agreed from the outset and monitored from day one. Teachers record Effort, Understanding, and Interaction (EUI) scores for every lesson, alongside attendance — all visible in real time via the Mentor Portal. Weekly attendance summaries and termly academic reports provide clear insight into progress, enabling mentors and schools to review performance and adjust targets where needed. This consistent monitoring supports improved engagement, academic outcomes, and successful reintegration.

why trust us

Successful provision to shout about!

“Academy 21 has provided my most hard-to-reach pupils, who would otherwise be school refusers, with invaluable support to engage with their curriculum. It has helped to supplement their learning, and the pupils involved with the provision have made positive progress both in terms of attendance to school and their academic studies.” – Sam Strickland, Principal

Sam Strickland

Principal, The Duston School

“Academy21 teachers delivering the curriculum are truly making a difference for students who really are struggling, whether it is behaviour, mental health, or attendance issues. The goal is to get the student back into a routine of school. With Academy21, it is not just about staying at home; it is about helping students transition back into school life.”

Matthew Judd

Pastoral Manager, Sittingbourne School

“Pupils have consistently reported they enjoy their lessons and look forward to them which is a testament to the quality of education being delivered. Academy21 has proved to be an invaluable resource, not only in maintaining continuity of education but also in providing a stepping stone for pupils to reintegrate into other educational settings.”

Daniel Linehan

Service Lead for Inclusion Engagement, Derbyshire County Council

“Academy21 transformed not only my outlook on learning but my outlook in all different areas of my life and it gave me new perspective and helped me advance both academically and in my personal life.”

Jaya

Former Y11 student now studying A levels

“It was never a chore for him to attend classes with Academy21. That shift in attitude towards learning was the most impressive part for me as a parent. He wanted to engage and learn, and that made all the difference. Even in that short period, we saw a remarkable shift in his motivation to learn and his eagerness to participate.”
