Meet our expert speakers
Sam Strickland, CEO/Principal, The Duston School
Sam started his career as a history teacher in Bedfordshire, where he quickly advanced to head of history and classics, then became a Lead Professional for a SCITT Consortium. As an assistant headteacher, he managed the sixth form and led a post-16 consortium. As vice-principal, he oversaw student care, the curriculum, and served as safeguarding lead. Sam’s tenure as associate principal earned commendations for exam results. An organiser of ResearchED Northampton and author of several educational books, Sam is a prominent voice in education, delivering courses and keynotes nationally.
Sam is now the principal of The Duston School, a large all-through school where he has helped guide GCSE results from the bottom 20% to the top 20%, and A-level outcomes to the top 5%, nationally.
Samantha Warwick, Director of SEND, Formby High School
Samantha has been a successful teacher and SENDCO in both primary and secondary schools for almost 20 years.
Samantha has been at the forefront of developing Personalised Curriculum provision for young people with complex SEND, SEMH and attendance needs.
These bespoke approaches culminated in Formby High School being recognised as TES Inclusive School of the Year in 2023. Outside of work, Samantha enjoys netball, cooking and travelling
Amy Husband, Head of School – Academic
Amy’s passion for psychology sparked an interest in child development from an early age. After enjoying her classroom teaching career, she has worked across several leadership teams in both Primary and Secondary settings, with MAT-wide responsibility for Safeguarding, Inclusion and School Improvement. Amy was awarded ‘Evidence Lead in Education (ELE) status in 2020, meaning she consults on and delivers content on behalf of the Department for Education and the Education Endowment Foundation.
Her passion for academic excellence, combined with her depth of expertise in alternative provision and SEND means that she is committed to ensuring all our pupils at Academy 21 thrive in an online environment that is designed to meet their wide range of additional needs, whilst providing them with an ambitious and rigorous curriculum.
Alessandro Capozzi, Executive Headteacher
Alessandro began his career as an English teacher. In his previous roles, Alessandro oversaw curriculum, teaching and learning, and inclusion and barriers to learning. He’s also been a Deputy Head in charge of pastoral standards and behaviour. At Academy21, he is particularly proud of working with diligent and invested colleagues who are passionate about providing enriching learning opportunities for all students.
Alessandro enjoys seeing students’ positive outcomes, not just in terms of academic achievement, but also improvements in engagement, attendance, and general wellbeing. He believes that online alternative provision can be a fantastic solution to reconnect students with their learning and assure that young people start to thrive again.
