Welsh student studies at a school inclusion unit

High-quality online alternative provision for vulnerable learners across England and Wales.

Founded in Wales in 2011, Academy21 works in partnership with schools to provide students who cannot attend mainstream classes with a high-quality, flexible education. We support 100s of schools across 145 local authorities.

We bring students with behavioural, medical and mental health needs a pathway to achieve strong, recognised outcomes.

We work in partnership with schools, local authorities and pupil referral units to ensure learners receive the best support possible.

Our Online Alternative Provision in Wales

Being the first online AP to be accredited by the DfE, we place a strong emphasis on the quality of our teaching. All lessons are taught by fully-qualified teachers experienced in delivering engaging, interactive and adaptive classes to students who may be facing their own challenges.

Years 7 to 9 | Key Stage 3

English, Maths, Science, Digital Skills, PSHE, and Humanities and Citizenship. Our curriculum is designed to prepare students to progress onto their GCSE subjects.

Years 10 and 11 | Key Stage 4

English Language, Maths and Numeracy and Science. Our WJEC-specific courses run over 1 and 2 years. For Year 11’s we offer English and Maths as a one-year course with a condensed curriculum covering the most crucial knowledge and skills to prepare students for exams. In Maths, students can join a Foundation or Intermediate class. For WJEC Science, year 11’s who have missed significant portions of year 10 can choose to join both the year 11 and year 10 classes to ensure they are studying all units.

“My teacher has inspired me for maths, and school in general, again and made me feel like I could do stuff. She gave a massive boost to my self-confidence and I would really like to thank her for that.”
