How Can Academy21 Help?

Young people in care and young carers are faced with the most challenging of life circumstances at such a young age. At these times their education and learning can become almost impossible for them to cope with or prioritise. At Academy21 we fully recognise this and our services offer a number of real benefits to young people in the care system.

01
Access from Anywhere

Our classes can be attended from any location where there is a broadband connection and computer. This can include care home, foster placement or other provision that has been arranged. We will consult with our clients to ensure our services are implemented with a clear focus on providing minimal disruption to each young person's care placement.

02
Continuity of Provision

At a time in their lives when there is little to no continuity, our service can remain a constant. Our flexible provision can support young people in care wherever they are placed, helping to ensure there is minimal disruption to their education and learning.

03
Safe & Secure Environment

Learners are in control of how and when they communicate within the classroom, with their peers and teachers and we do not use web cams or ‘pressure’ learners to use their microphone in class. This provides a degree of control over their classroom environment that they cannot achieve in a mainstream setting.

04
Safeguarding

Our teachers are fully trained in Safeguarding and Child Protection and we have Designated Safeguarding Leads within our education team. Every lesson we teach is recorded and so we are able to present written or verbal evidence to our clients quickly following a disclosure in class, which may support any subsequent safeguarding board investigation.

05
Broad Curriculum

Academy21 focuses on delivering core subject outcomes for learners in the care system to support their progression to further education and employment. We offer other relevant courses including EAL/ESOL for new arrivals and unaccompanied asylum seekers, and a broader curriculum offer including Humanities and PSHE.

06
Additional Support

Young people in care may require additional support in their learning as there will be times they are unable to cope with or attend their Academy21 lessons. All learners can drop in every Friday morning at a time that suits them to get additional one to one and small group support. We also provide 24/7 access to our library lessons and activities to prevent any further gaps.

Other Pupils We Support

Academy21 works with over 800 pupils each year supporting a diverse range of need. Below are just some of the reasons why schools, local education authorities and parents and carers of young people with an EHCP, refer pupils to Academy21.
